About the Art
Pointer with Quail by Edmund Henry Osthaus, painted in 1890, exemplifies the early 20th-century American sporting tradition, and the great respect that hunters had for their faithful companions.
In this piece, a handsome German Short Haired Pointer returns to its master with a quail resting gently in it’s mouth, accented by a beautiful autumn backdrop of reddish-brown leaves and grasses.
Othaus painted many beautiful tributes to the faithful hunting dog in his lifetime, favoring the ever faithful german shorthair in many of them. This oil painting is an excellent piece of quail hunting art history and hunter would be thrilled to own.
Edmund Henry Osthaus
Edmund Henry Osthaus was a German painter trained at the Royal Academy of Art, where he was instructed by many noted artists of the time, including Christian Kroner, a wildlife painter.
He later followed his parents to America, taking a job as an instructor at the Toledo Academy of Fine Arts. However, after he resigned, he devoted his time to his passions of shooting and painting.
Osthauas excelled at creating life like paintings, particularly of gun dogs at work in the field. These paintings came into great demand in the 1890’s, with wealthy families like the Vanderbilts and Morgans becoming patrons and commissioning original paintings.

What size print should I order?
The size of your print largely depends on where you want to hang it. For art hung over a sofa or a bed choose a print which is 75% the length of the furniture.
For example, if your sofa measures 80 inches in length you’d want a print that is at least 55 inches. For over the bed placement, measure the length of the headboard.
If you are hanging a print over the fireplace, however, it generally looks best when you choose a print that is the same width as the opening of the fireplace.
Though, sometimes a print that is the length of the mantle can also look nice.
When choosing wall art for a mostly empty wall, the print should take up 60% of the available space, so for an 8 foot wall you’d want a 55-60 inch print.
If there are other items filling part of the space, like furniture, you may want to go smaller so things look more balanced.

This process takes time depending on our manufacturing backlog, but you can expect fulfillment to take place within 2-5 days of ordering.
After that, your order is handed off to the courier, and will reach you within 3-6 business days depending on your location, holiday schedule, and their current workload.

Quality is guaranteed. If there is a print error or visible defect, we will replace your order. However, we do not accept general or sizing related returns.
