About the Art
Alfred Strutt’s “Do Your Worst” is a fascinating and unique piece of fox hunting art history. While most fox hunting art focuses on the riders and the chase, this piece features the hunt’s climax.
A cornered fox makes a last defiant stand in this action packed fox hunting scene painting from the early 19th century.
It’s a fantastic classic hunting painting filled with the drama of the hunt and is one of Strutt’s most memoral works of British sporting art.

Alfred William Strutt
Alfred William Strutt (1856–1924) was a British painter best known for his vivid depictions of hunting, sporting life, and animals in action.
The son of the artist William Strutt, Alfred inherited a strong artistic lineage and was drawn to subjects that combined natural movement with the thrill of the chase.
He trained at the South Kensington Schools and quickly developed a reputation for his ability to capture both the intensity and detail of the sporting field.
Strutt specialized in scenes of fox hunting, deer stalking, and rural sporting traditions, creating works that reflected the deep cultural importance of field sports in late Victorian and Edwardian Britain.
His paintings are characterized by their lively energy, with hounds, horses, and game rendered in dramatic motion.
He became a recognized member of the Royal Society of British Artists (R.B.A.), exhibiting regularly and appealing to collectors who prized the heritage and excitement of hunting imagery.

What size print should I order?
The size of your print largely depends on where you want to hang it. For art hung over a sofa or a bed choose a print which is 75% the length of the furniture.
For example, if your sofa measures 80 inches in length you’d want a print that is at least 55 inches. For over the bed placement, measure the length of the headboard.
If you are hanging a print over the fireplace, however, it generally looks best when you choose a print that is the same width as the opening of the fireplace.
Though, sometimes a print that is the length of the mantle can also look nice.
When choosing wall art for a mostly empty wall, the print should take up 60% of the available space, so for an 8 foot wall you’d want a 55-60 inch print.
If there are other items filling part of the space, like furniture, you may want to go smaller so things look more balanced.
